The most apparent feature of trigeminal neuralgia is the attacks of pain. These are among the most severe forms of chronic pain known to modern medicine, and it’s important to recognize when an attack occurs, as it may not always be immediately obvious. Pain from a TN attack is so severe that it can completely incapacitate a patient both mentally and physically, so you’ll need to watch for any of the following symptoms to recognize an attack:

            Sudden, abrupt immobility or silence  

            A sudden jerk or start

            Involuntary twitching of the face

            A sudden scream or shout of pain
